Test your colour before painting,just choosing it is not enough. Paint a small portion of your walls with sample paints of different colours so that you know which is better.
Do not use multiple darker shades in a room otherwise it might spoil the elegance of the room.
If you use warm colours, then paint the trim with lighter shades like white or yellow. But if the ceiling is low,paint the trim also with the same colour which will also make the wall look tall.
