Is there a way to use black without ending up making the room look smaller?

I really want to have contrasting shades for my home, especially am keen on using black in some way… but my friends are suggesting that if I pick black, it will make the house look smaller than it is. Is that true?

Black is probably the last color anybody would want to use at their home because of the myth that it makes the room appear smaller, but the secret lies in how to use it. Black can be used in bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, in accessories, light fixtures, paint, or in one trendy piece of furniture . The color black looks elegant if used properly. The trick is to only have small portions of black.

It looks classy on just one wall when you keep the rest of the room light ( with white or cream). You can also pick up a black with matte finish for your bedroom or a rich charcoal shade and indigo undertones.

If you are afraid of using just black, add variety by using shades of yellow, pink, camel, red, or purple for a striking look.!

Here are some examples of how black can make your home look truly awesome…
