How do I ensure a spacious kitchen in a small home?

Looking for ideas to have a compact kitchen!

For a compact space, a straight kitchen layout is just right - one single comprehensive counter against the wall! It encompasses a sink as well as a countertop, beneath which there is adequate storage space for various cooking utensils as well as bulky groceries. The wall space above the countertop can be fitted with suitable fixtures for storing plates and smaller grocery items such as beverage containers.

Alternatively, you could go for a corner kitchen - an L-shaped counter at a place where two major walls of the living space meet. This type of kitchen comes with more storage space and is, therefore, more accommodative than a straight kitchen.

Bright and light colours are the most appropriate for a small kitchen since they boost the illusion of space. Shades of red and orange, white, gray or pastel shades are good options.

Either get appliances that can be built into a fixed structure, or opt for fewer multipurpose ones.

Big hooks can be fitted onto the insides of the doors of the cabinetry, under the countertop. This makes a great spot for keeping small jars and bottles. A creative design idea is to have an extendable cutting board that retracts into your cabinet after it has been used.

It may be a good idea to fit some sturdy hooks on the wall and hang up your pots and pans. You can also hang smaller items such as knives, cutlery, ladles, tea strainers etc. This frees up a considerable amount of space in the cabinets. You can also have shelves fixed on the walls to store jars, containers and such other items. Don’t overdo it though!

Bright lights that are placed as high as possible should be preferred. Having a well-lit cabinetry and using indirect lighting also lend an elegant look to the kitchen!

Hope this helps!
