How good are wallpapers, as an alternative to paint?

Are they more durable than paints?

Well… they sure are available in a lot of designs, colours, and textures. Wallpapers come in different finishes like vinyl, foil printed etc. Your choice of design can be printed on fabric like silk, suede etc.

Applying wallpapers needs expertise to ensure that the pattern is aligned properly and paper is stuck well to the wall. It is a task that is time-consuming and requires a great deal of patience.

This holds good while stripping wallpaper too. Old wallpaper will have to be removed before applying the new one. If the wallpaper is not installed properly it can develop bubbles, start peeling off from the sides etc. Wallpapers can be effectively used to cover up surface imprecations.

They are very durable though - they can last as long as 15 years. However, if they get damaged owing to tears or leakage, they need to be completely stripped and replaced. This can be time-consuming and expensive.

It is better to use wallpapers where they aren’t exposed to heat and moisture. That way, they’ll last long. For the other areas, you can stick to good old paint - which again, is available in a variety of types, depending on the area where you wish to use them.
